Prescriptions
Herbal medicine can treat almost any condition that you would normally take to your GP, although it has been known to be especially effective in the following conditions:
- women's hormonal imbalances e.g. PMS, painful periods, menopausal symptoms, PCOS
- compromised immunity - recurrent colds, glue ear, frequent use of antibiotics
- digestive problems - indigestion, IBS, gut dysbiosis, Crohn's disease
- inflammatory conditions e.g. arthritis, psoriasis, sinusitis
- allergic conditions - hayfever, asthma, eczema
- stress
- insomnia
- anxiety
- non-specific ill-health e.g. 'feeling tired all the time'
The medicine I usually prescribe is a blend of between 3 and 7 herbal tinctures. (A tincture is an alcohol-based extract of the whole plant.) This enables me to address both symptoms and causes of your condition at the same time, and is easily altered at subsequent visits.
My dispensary contains about 100 different herbal tinctures, and each mix is individually formulated to meet the exact needs of the patient. This means that two people visiting me with the same condition may well leave with completely different medicines.
I may choose to prescribe a medicinal herbal tea or a blend of herbal powders placed into capsules, if more appropriate. Other non-alcohol based preparations are available for those who cannot or do not wish to take alcohol. You may also require a herbal cream or ointment.
All remedies are assembled by hand. I do not use pre-formulated herbal medicines. Nor do I use 'standardised extracts' which are herbal medicines which have been altered to contain exact amounts of specific constituents.
